(1) Tukufu Zuberi
(2) Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs
What's the difference?
The first is the name of a sociologist who appears on the PBS show "History Detectives". The second is the slogan for a children's cereal.
Every time I hear the former, I think of the latter. I also think of how irritating pretentious people can be.
Actually, his name sounds like a combination of Cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs and Frankenberry (the name of another children's cereal), which results in "Cuckoo Frankenberry".
The picture that accompanies his Wikipedia article shows him in a pretentious pose, peering intently into the camera with his fingers to his pursed lips. But with such a silly-sounding name, it should show him jumping all over the place proclaiming his love for sugary treats (a la the Cocoa Puffs cuckoo bird mascot).
I think it's wonderful that Dr. Zuberi wants to get back to his African roots, but he should have kept his original name: Antonio McDaniel. His parents had more sense than he does when it comes to selecting names.
